The following three files are necessary to replicate the analysis of von Kalckreuth, Schmidt, Stix (2014), Using Cash to Monitor Liquidity - Implications for Payments, Currency Demand and Withdrawal Behavior, JMCB.

a) MSS_12_188_Using_Cash_to_Monitor_Liquidity_DATA.csv - ASCII comma separated file

This file contains the data necessary to replicate the analysis. It is a reduced and processed version of the raw data.
All sampled consumers without a debit card are eliminated for example. The file was generated from the raw data using the Stata-do file
von_Kalckreuth_Schmidt_Stix_MS12-188_Using_Cash_to_Monitor_Liquidity_ANALYSIS.do (see c below). The data may only be used for replication purposes.

b) MSS_12_188_Using_Cash_to_Monitor_Liquidity_STATA_ANALYSIS.do - Stata Do-File

This stata 12 do-file reads in the data described above (a) and calculates all tables, as well as numbers reported in the text of the paper.
In order for the program to run on a user's computer, the work directory needs to be set (line 31). The work directory needs to contain the dataset
in a subfolder labeled "data", a subfolder for the log-files labeled "log" and a subfolder for results labeled "results".

The ado-file is set-up in a way that no additional, user-written programs need to be downloaded. It is recommended to download mat2txt and outreg2
to output the tables and matrix to txt or excel/csv files. The relevant sections in the code need to be "uncommented" once these two ado-files
are installed.

c) MSS_12_188_Using_Cash_to_Monitor_Liquidity_STATA_DATA PREPARATION.do - Stata Do-File

This file documents how the file for the analysis (see a) was generated. The raw data base is a survey dataset coupled with a consumer expenditure diary.
Th raw data is confidential and proprietary. It is administered by the Cash Department of the Deutsche Bundesbank in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. The data can
therfore only be accessed, for replication purposes, in a secure environment in the Central Office of the Deutsche Bundesbank in Frankfurt, on the basis of a
request to the Head of the Cash Department:
